Buying from Taka Jewellery

After spending a bomb on getting my proposal ring, buying a house and throwing a nice hotel dinner banquet, my finances are slightly more stretched these days. As husband and wife, we are working hard to save and bring our savings back up to pre-marriage days.

Since "dangerous" jokes are safer to crack these days, I have often wondered aloud to my wife when we pass by Taka Jewellery outlets if she will like to enter to pick an item since there were sales and the jewellery items were very cheap. However, not once have we successfully stepped into Taka Jewellery nor have we even taken a single flyer from the sales persons. The often swift retort from my wife was that she was "totally not interested" in jewellery from Taka Jewellery and if I bought any item from there as gift for her, she will not wear them.

Our perception of Taka Jewellery, as well as the image the shop and its sales persons potray, is that the shop sells cheap jewellery. Somehow, when we go shopping and end up finding something we like and asking for the price, it is often expensive, not that we were browsing branded products. Perhaps our inner desire for quality products drives our outward manifestation of "expensive taste".

Taka Jewellery definitely has its supporters as I believe it targets the lower income group who will be satisfied with having a piece, any piece, of diamond jewellery regardless of the cut, clarity, colour. To me, how can a shop whose sales persons ever stood in front of the shop yelling at the top of the voice "Lelong lelong! (Lelong is Malay for sale) X items for $XX" be good enough for my wife? Even if I save money buying the jewellery, it brings me no satisfaction when she goes for her girls' night out and puts on cheap pieces of jewellery that does not reflect well on me.

Invest and buy a few good piece of jewellery and it will go a long way. For one, my wife is definitely happy with my choice of the diamond solitaire and has been wearing it often!
